Komatsu

You may know them as Dosukoi from the Fremantle Markets, but these guys are now going by a new name - Komatsu - and have set up shop at Fremantle FOMO. Still serving up some of Perth's best ramen with delicious broths, silky Japanese noodles and street-style treats, this is a must if you’re after a hearty bowl of ramen in Freo.

Ageto Ramen

Ageto Ramen

Matcha Ramen probably isn’t for everyone, but the frothy, green, savoury bowl of goodness at Ageto has recently gone viral on socials, so we say it’s worth a try! If matcha isn’t your cup of tea, this Canning Vale Food Court ramen shop also serves up the classic ramen broth flavours, and very well at that.

Super Souper Ramen

Super Souper Ramen

The sister to the incredibly popular traditional kaiten sushi train chain Super Tetsudo, this ramen joint was always going to be special. It’s landed in a sleek space in the West Deck precinct of the Karrinyup shopping centre (opposite Super Tetsudo). Serving up traditional Hakata-style ramen, paired with new, innovative flavours, this is the perfect spot to sit and soak up the buzzy atmosphere and dig into piping hot bowls of flavourful broth and chewy noodles.

Bari-Uma

Bari-Uma

The ramen at Bari-Uma is consistently good, and the mood of the restaurants exude that modest warmth of authentic Japanese dining.  The menu is straightforward and simple, but high in quality—with an option to choose your spice level, from ‘less spicy’ all the way through to ‘fire hot’. The signature Bari-uma is a pork flavoured shoyu soup with thick-cut grilled chashu.  Add an order of steaming hot karaage to make the inevitable lining up even more worthwhile.

Hakata Gensuke

Hakata Gensuke Ramen

Renowned for their dedication to the rich and flavourful Hakata-style ramen (originating from the Fukuoka region of Japan), this esteemed eatery is a pilgrimage site for ramen enthusiasts seeking an authentic bowl of some of the best Perth has to offer. And while it’s not unusual for a ramen joint, the staff are friendly and attentive, and welcome you in with a loud ‘Irasshaimase!’ every time.

On offer is their signature tonkotsu broth, a black sesame tonkotsu, the spicy God Fire, or the lighter shio tonkotsu. The house-made noodles are perfectly chewy, and you conveniently order with the menu and pencil provided, for full customisation from the broth to the noodle firmness and choice of toppings.

Ramen Keisuke

Ramen Keisuke Tonkotsu King

One of Japan’s renowned ramen chains, Ramen Keisuke Tonkotsu King, is unsurprisingly also one of Perth’s best. A firm favourite among the ramen lovers, probably because these guys deliver the epitome of tonkotsu ramen perfection, with unlimited jammy boiled eggs.

They offer all the traditional tonkotsu ramen varieties in varying spice levels, as well as dishing out limited edition beauties, like ramen with crab dumplings. It’s walk-ins only here (be prepared for a bit of a wait), and you’ll find them attached to the Melbourne Hotel in the CBD.

Ippudo Ramen

Ippudo Ramen

Ippudo has emerged as a powerhouse in the world of ramen, boasting an expert team that knows the secrets to crafting exceptional bowls of the Japanese soul food.

Delighting ramen enthusiasts with their diverse menu, the star of the Ippudo show has got to be the signature tonkotsu broth - choose from the original broth, a creamy option, with miso and garlic oil, or with a fiery kick of spicy ground pork miso for those who like it hot. It’s one of the best in Perth.

Ramen Samurai

With ten flavours of ramen to choose from, you'll find yourself spoilt for choice at this sophisticated Japanese eatery in East Vic Park.

From their authentic miso ramen, boasting a velvety broth simmered to perfection, to their inventive kimchi ramen with its delicious blend of umami flavours, each bowl showcases the skill and creativity of the Ramen Samurai kitchen. The noodles are freshly made in-house every day, broth is simmered for over ten hours and there’s donburi and fresh gyoza on the menu, too.

Tosaka Ramen

Tosaka Ramen

Ramen bowls & donburi, sake and Japanese beer offered in a quaint, brick-lined space, Tosaka Ramen will have you transported to the streets of Kyoto from your first spoonful. The star dish at Tosaka is the tori paitan ramen, and the buzz of the space tells you just how exceptional it is. It's a rich chicken broth, that's creamy white and simmered for 10 hours, and whipped into a foamy cloud that’s light yet seriously flavourful. We're in love.

Ramen Ichiraku

Ramen Ichiraku

Their signature dish might be the Hakata-style creamy tonkotsu ramen (and it's a show-stopper), but no one misses out on a bowl of soul-warming goodness at Ramen Ichiraku. These guys have an entire menu dedicated to bringing the same satisfying, umami goodness to the vegan crowd (including tasty faux chicken karaage and vegan cheeseburger gyoza), and we’re all the better for it.
