The Best Things to do at TrailGraze Tasmania 2024

Tasmania’s Tasting Trail is a route you can follow in Tassie’s north-west, stopping off every few kilometres to enjoy local producers’ delicious fare. While you can embark on your own self-guided tour at any time, each year there’s a special weekend dedicated to the Trail called TrailGraze Tasmania.

The 2024 edition – held from April 19th until the 21st – is the third annual TrailGraze event, and with food-loving visitors converging on the area in higher numbers each year, producers are pulling out all the stops. There’s special events, activations, collaborations, and family-friendly activities popping up across the Trail.

So with more than 30 producers on TrailGraze Tasmania 2024’s lineup, and only limited time to tick them off, what are the best stops to make? Read on for our picks.

TrailGraze Dinner

This year, TrailGraze Tasmania 2024 kicks off with the TrailGraze dinner held in the apple orchard at Spreyton’s Cider Co. Curated by chefs Palisa Anderson and Lilly Trewartha and wine and drinks expert Mike Bennie, the menu impressively features food from all 32 of Trail’s producers across canapés, shared mains and desserts. There’s local wine, beer and spirits available for purchase and live music to entertain you on the night. The dinner costs $130pp and bookings are essential on the website.

6 Melrose Road, Spreyton

House of Hargrave 

Start your Saturday and Sunday mornings off right at boutique family owned vineyard House of Hargrave with Yoga in the Vines at 9.30am, followed by a mimosa and breakfast – it cost $50pp and you can book on the website. Afterwards, wander the winery’s picturesque grounds and pat the resident highland cows and pose for photos with your new bovine friends from 11am. All afternoon, you can partake in wine tastings, sampling the vineyard’s Pinot Noir and Schonburger varieties.

The Truffle Farm

On Saturday and Sunday, you can join the Truffle Farm’s clever and cute truffle hunting dogs for a mini tour of the farm. Together you can search for truffles and learn all about the history of the farm and the fascinating history of truffle hunting. When you’re done, sample truffle-based delicacies including newly-created truffle ice cream and stock up on goodies at the farm gate shop. Tickets for the truffle hunting tour are $50pp for an adult, and bookings can be made via the website.

Ghost Rock Wines

If you’re a fan of cool climate wines, you’ll want to sign yourself up for a visit to Ghost Rock Vineyard. During TrailGraze 2024, the vineyard is doing $30 buggy tours for two all weekend, providing the ultimate behind-the-scenes look at the workings of the winery – and a tasting afterwards, of course. Why not spend a bit longer at the vineyard and book in for the two-course lunch at the on-site eatery – the menu includes Tasting Trail produce and matched Ghost Rock wines and is $60pp. Bookings for the buggy tour and the lunch are essential and can be made on the website.

House of Anvers

Chocoholics, unite – the ultimate sweet tooth destination during TrailGraze Tasmania 2024 is Anvers Chocolate Factory. Join Belgian-born head chocolatier Igor Van Gerwen for a workshop in which he’ll help you create your own chocolate confection, guide you through a tasting and give you a whopping one kilogram of chocolate to take home. All of Anvers’ chocolate is made using Tasmanian cream and butter, so it’s truly a local delicacy. The chocolate workshop runs on Saturday April 20th, costs $60pp and can be booked online. 

9025 Bass Highway, Latrobe

Alchymia Distillery

The ultimate TrailGraze collab is happening at Alychmia Distillery, so if you want to tick off a few local producers at once, this is the place to be. On Saturday April 20th, fellow Trail producers La Cántara Artisan Cheeses and Tarkine Fresh Oyster will bring their wares to Alchymia for a Saturday session of oysters, cheese and fine spirits – head to the website to book either a cheese and whisky pairing, a gin and oyster pairing, or both! On Sunday, there’s pizza and live music happening at the Distillery, which you can also book online. Tickets start at $25pp for Saturday and $15pp for Sunday.

Van Diemens Land Creamery

Stop off at any time over the weekend for a sugar hit at Van Diemens Land Creamery, an artisan gelato shop which has created two special desserts to celebrate TrailGraze Tasmania 2024 using ingredients from fellow producers. Will you choose the Autumn Haze – chocolate and hazelnut gelato topped with whipped cream, Anvers dark chocolate flakes, Hellyers Road Distillery whisky liqueur and gently roasted Hazelbrae hazelnuts? Or perhaps the

North West Mess is more your style with raspberry and cherry ice cream topped off with whipped cream, crushed meringue, Anvers white chocolate flakes, fresh Christmas Hills raspberries and Western Tiers Distillery gin sauce.

Meander Valley Vineyard

Roll up your pants and get messy at Meander Valley Vineyard, which is doing grape stomping sessions over the two days of TrailGraze 2024. During the 45 minute workshop you’ll hand-pick grapes, pop them in the oak barrels and then your feet will go to work stomping to extract that grape juice. Afterwards, enjoy a tasting of Meander Valley’s wines including pinot gris, pinot noir and sparkling rosé. Tickets for the stomping sessions start at $35pp and can be booked online.

Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm

Pop into Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm to pick up a jar of its special edition jam, the TrailGraze Tangle – a mixed berry concoction made entirely of the area’s berries. The farm’s cafe is also doing special desserts and there’s lawn games and berry tastings being held out on the lawn all weekend.

Seven Sheds Brewery

Beer lovers can head to Seven Sheds at any time over the TrailGraze2024 weekend to try a tasting flight of local brews, including special beers from the reserve range. Chill out in the autumn sun and design your own picnic platters with treats from fellow Trail producers – think olives, cheese, baguettes, truffle oil and pickled onions. No bookings are required, just head on in.
