The Best Bay of Fires Accommodation More Stunning Than The Actual Views

Tasmania’s rugged northeast coast is famously picturesque, and the best Bay of Fires accommodation makes the most of the beautiful surroundings.

Muka

Tasmania’s northeast coast is famously stunning – think azure beaches bordered with dramatic orange lichen-covered boulders and white sand as far as the eye can see. Visitors to Australia’s southernmost state head to the Bay of Fires for its unique landscape but also the peace and quiet. On the mainland, famous beaches may be synonymous with heaving crowds but down in Tassie, serenity is the name of the game.

There’s much to explore in this corner of Tasmania, from the beaches themselves to charming towns like St Helens and slightly further south, the natural wonder that is Freycinet National Park. If this area is next on your must-visit list, here’s all the best Bay of Fires accommodation that will knock your socks off as much as the gorgeous scenery.

When you’re done with your daily adventures, head to the nearby town of St Helens, buy up some local produce and make the most of the BBQ and deck for a sunset meal.

SABI

SABI

Designed in the wabi-sabi tradition, SABI finished as a finalist in Airbnb’s Host Awards in 2022 for Best Design Stay and it shows. This stone cabin has featured in several design publications and is all about raw textures and earthen tones – which makes sense given its location in Binalong Bay with its rugged rocky outcrops.

It’s not just beautiful to look at – pared-back SABI may be about minimalism but there are many thoughtful touches for guests in this two-bedroom property. The highlight? The Japanese-inspired onsen (hot tub) that adjoins the master bedroom. You won’t want to leave.

Rivercabin

Rivercabin

Rivercabin is handily located in Upper Scamander, the perfect midway point between the Bay of Fires and the Freycinet area. While it may not be located right on a beach, it’s still waterfront – nestled in the bush on the banks of the Scamander River, the perfect tranquil spot.

The one-bedroom property comes with kayaks and paddleboards so you can make the most of the calm waters of the river, but if you do want a dip in the ocean, Scamander Beach is just 10 minutes away.
