Fruit picking holds a certain type of pleasure that is hard to come by. A simple act hardwired to spark joy? Perhaps. Whatever the reason we all love fruit picking so much, it's not always something us city slickers get to engage in. Next time you have a free weekend, why not hit the road and pick your favourite fruit? There are plenty of farms facilitating apple, pear, citrus, strawberry and even flower picking, many just an hour from Sydney. Let us help you on your way with this edit of the best flower and fruit picking spots near Sydney.

Glenebernie Orchard

Glenbernie Orchard is a sixth-generation fruit farm that holds a special place in many Sydney-sider's hearts. The scene to many a day out, the farm is around an hour from Sydney and home to a farm shop, fruit picking experiences and the famous Darkes Cider. The fruit-picking season runs from November to April with stone fruit, apple and permissions all up for grabs. Bookings are essential.

Sitchu Tip: Make a day of it and pack some walking shoes. There are some great short bushwalks opposite the entrance to the farm.

Pine Crest Orchard

This family-run business of more than forty years is as welcoming as they come, dogs on lead included. They've got a little bit of everything growing in their orchard from cherries, plums and peaches to apples and pears. No bookings are required but we recommend jumping on to Pine Crest Orchard's socials to see what's in season and available to pick.

Berrylicious Strawberries

Berrylicious Strawberries

Just an hour from Sydney you'll find Berrylicious Strawberries. Their berries are grown two metres from the ground in an undercover system that allows them to remain largely pest and bacteria-free. Due to their unique growing conditions, the berries can be picked rain, hail or shine! They grow all year round with pick-your-own days largely falling on weekends and throughout the school holidays. The best place to follow along is on their Facebook page where you'll find which dates are open and how to book.

Glenbernie Family Farms are definitely the hostess with the mostess in the pick-your-own world. They've got fields of sunflowers and seasonal blooms in which you can take pretty pics (on-leash pets are welcome), fluffy highland cows and food options and hot drinks on-site. Most importantly, you can pick your own sunflowers to take home. It's recommended to bring a bucket and secateurs though these are available for purchase on-site if needed. Before your visit do be sure to check Glebernie's social media as they often post last-minute closures and updates.
