Things to do in Kiama: Where to Eat, Stay & Play

For a coastal sojourn just two hours from Sydney, it has to be Kiama. This pretty seaside town has everything you want from a weekend away - fresh ocean air, cafes in abundance, boutique stores and plenty of nature activities. Kiama Blowhole 

If you don't have childhood memories of road trips down to see the blowhole, it's time to create some. The blowhole is a natural phenomenon that occurs when water is compressed within a sea cave that results in water shooting out up to 30 meters in height. It's best on really wavy days but always worth checking out.

Kiama to Gerringong Coast Walk 

This delightful coastal track is a solid day of walking that takes you past some of the most spectacular South Coast views. You'll travel past rocky beaches and lush green farmland as well as taking in a number of local landmarks from the Kiama Blowhole to Cathedral Rocks.  Be sure to pack swimmers and a picnic as there are plenty of spots to stop and soak up the scenery along the way. 

The Pines Pantry 

After a morning of exploration, swing by The Pines Pantry for the best gelato and milkshakes on the South Coast. Exclusively using milk from their very own micro-dairy, these goodies are a cut above. You can also shop cheeses and take-home dairy products alongside a selection of locally produced bits and bobs for your pantry.

El Corazon Cocina de Mexico 

Satisfy your cravings for tacos and sangria at El Corazon Cocina de Mexico. This energetic restaurant is open for both lunch and dinner and has a decidedly holiday feel to it. You can glimpse the harbour from your seat whilst you sip on jugs of icy cold sangria and indulge in the comprehensive menu. The servings are generous so don't hesitate to share!

The Hungry Monkey 

The Hungry Monkey is a bit of a South Coast institution with outposts in Bowral and Thirroul. They cover all your classic brunch fare alongside a beloved menu of burgers. Swing by on a Wednesday to grab one for just $12!

Little Earth Roasters 

Away from the bustle of downtown Kiama, Little Earth is located on a coastal residential street. Their onsite roasting room has brought in awards from the Australian International Coffee Awards so you expect one of the best cups in town. They also serve up some mean brunch staples so swing by if you're feeling peckish.

Pick up a holiday read from this incredibly well-stocked bookshop. You'll find all the latest bestsellers alongside a curation of beautiful fiction and non-fiction reads. The Bookshop offers a lovely browsing experience so be sure to leave yourself plenty of time to find the perfect book.

If you're looking to pick up some souvenirs or just fancy a good shop, head to The Collective Beat, a collective marketplace that houses multiple small and local business stalls. You'll find plenty of local and handmade goodies ranging from jewellery to dog treats.

Kiama Farmers Markets

If you find yourself holidaying down at Kiama midweek, don't miss the weekly farmer's market. You can stock up on fresh local produce, much of which is sold to you directly from the farmer. There's also plenty of ready-to-eat treats alongside flowers, plants, pantry goodies and more.
