PORT MACQUARIE

GET TO KNOW
THE AREA

Easy-going and carefree, Port Macquarie's year-round sunny disposition is a breath of fresh air. The laid-back town centre may be the beating pulse of this seaside destination. Still, it's the natural wonderland – beaches, clifftop walks, rivers and national parks – that surround this coastal beauty that has people coming from far-flung places for their very own slice of paradise.

Lifestyle

Shaking its sleepy town vibe, Port Macquarie has fast-tracked its way to being one of the Mid North Coast's hottest addresses. With the Hastings River on one side and a string of dreamy surf beaches on the other, you will quickly be hooked on Port Macquarie's love for all things outdoors.

A haven for water sports, locals never tire of all the places to swim, surf, paddle, sail, dive and fish. Be along the calm waters of the Hastings River, where dolphins love to frolic, or along the many beaches that make up Port Macquarie; Town Beach, Shelly Beach, Flynn's Beach and Lighthouse Beach (just to name a few).

The coastal trails will get your heart-rate pumping, and the foreshore parks are made for leisurely picnics. Either way, you will be well-rewarded with incredible coastline views and, if you're lucky, the migrating whales. Sea Acres National Park comes complete with a Rainforest Café, and the Koala Hospital is a sanctuary for local koalas in need.

Then there are the two main shopping hubs – Settlement City and Port Central – and an impressive line-up of cafes, eateries and waterfront dining. There are also art galleries, markets, the Glasshouse Theatre and a jam-packed calendar of events on and off the land (including the highly anticipated Ironman Competition).

The seaside town's easy access has also cemented Port Macquarie's increasing popularity. Located just off the Pacific Highway, Port Macquarie boasts an airport with direct flights to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and a network of buses and trains in the neighbouring towns of Kendall, Pembrooke and Wauchope. It's little wonder this seaside beauty is a cut above the rest.
