Led by fun-loving Australian chef David Thompson, the complex flavours never fail to initiate conversations about the spicy components and far-flung destinations. Baan Baan

One of Perth's Thai dining hotspots, Baan Baan is Thai for 'comfort and simple,' used to express cravings for something delicious to eat. Serving up traditional home-style foods mixed with a few local produce twists, go for their steamed rice dumplings with prawn, radish and peanuts, signature chicken wings with tamarind, the crispy Thai pancake with mushrooms and bean sprouts, ginger and fried mackerel betel leaf, the Phuket style braised pork belly, their very popular Pad Thai, and a whole fried turmeric snapper with green mango sauce. Long Lae Thai Cuisine is a fantastic Mount Lawley restaurant that boasts seriously fresh Thai food packed with flavour. If you love spice and BYO bevvies, this is the place for you!

Mercifully, there are also crunchy pancakes and stir-fries where you have more chance of controlling the spice factor, followed by some soothing mango with sticky rice for dessert.

Rym Tarng

This tiny BYO restaurant in Bicton was opened in 2022 by a former Long Chim alumni - and it's dishing up some fresh Thai street food eats. Move quick to snag one of Rym Tarng's 16 seats, and get your fill of their titillating green papaya salad, rich massaman curry, Tom Kha (a coconut and galangal soup with mushroom, chicken, or prawn), the choo chee prawns, and other Thai classics. Zingy, delightful, casual dining, and one of the best Thai restaurants in Perth.

Sala Thai

Sala Thai has been open for so long, that it might well be one of the longest-running fine-dining Thai restaurants in Fremantle, if not Perth. Dusit Cottesloe

After serving Bangkok classics in Northbridge for years and then relocating to Hillarys Boat Harbour, Dusit’s dedicated fans have now followed them to Cottesloe, where they've set up a temporary home since April this year. That alone gives you some idea of the calibre of their dishes and resilience, further enhanced by the number of awards they’ve won. Our picks include the seared Shark Bay scallops with apple and herbs, twice-roasted pork belly with papaya salad and their famous roast duck red curry.
