CITY BEACH
GET TO KNOW
THE AREA
This might be impossible to believe, but when visiting City Beach, you’ll likely have most of those crystal waters and sugary sand all to yourself. Situated just 10 kilometres from the heart of Perth’s CBD, this tranquil shore is the closest coastal beach to the city (hence the name).
Lifestyle
Spanning across kilometres of parkland, pristine beaches and mansions, the neighbourhood of City Beach comes alive during summer with bathers chasing the sun. However, the locals don’t need to wait for the warmer months to stroll along the shoreline, also encompassing Floreat Beach and several dog-friendly beaches.
City Beach is home to several beachside restaurants competing for your attention, including Odyssea, Hampton’s and Clancy’s Fish Bar, and the Quarry Amphitheatre and Reabold Hill lookout in Bold Park. Apart from its natural beauty, this suburb is also desirable for its easy access to excellent public and private schools and The Boulevard and Floreat Forum shopping centres. There are direct bus routes to the city and Fremantle and the picturesque West Coast Highway snaking its way along the coast.

Area features
CITY BEACH
While quieter than some of its neighbouring beaches, which the locals aren’t complaining about, this gorgeous stretch of beach features a huge playground, volleyball nets, BBQs, the City Beach Surf Life Saving Club, a grassed area and change room facilities. After all, once you’re done playing in the waves, you’ll want to freshen up if you plan on dining at the local seaside restaurants.
FLOREAT BEACH
Floreat Beach is a separate neighbourhood, but its beach falls under the northern part of the suburb of City Beach. It’s worth powering through this confusing geography lesson if only to luxuriate on its powdery sand and trek along the Floreat Beach Nature Walk. One of the few boardwalks along the coastline, you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views of the Indian Ocean, and on a clear day, you can see all the way to Fremantle and Rottnest Island.
QUARRY AMPHITHEATRE
Carved out of a limestone quarry, any open-air performance at the Quarry Amphitheatre leaves punters in awe of the magical scenery. Situated on Reabold Hill, the quarry ceased operation in 1906, but much of the excavated limestone is still evident in many of Perth’s early buildings. In 1986, the quarry was transformed into an amphitheatre, and today it hosts jazz, opera and rock concerts, and in February, West Australian Ballet opens its season to a spell-bound audience beneath starry skies.
BOLD PARK AND REABOLD HILL
At 437 hectares and one of the largest remaining bushlands in the metropolitan area, Bold Park is home to over 1000 species of flora and fauna. Multiple walking trails weave their way through the park and follow the raised boardwalk through natural bushland to the highest point on the Swan Coastal Plain to Reabold Hill. At 85 metres above sea level, from this scenic point, enjoy the fantastic views of Perth’s skyline, the Indian Ocean, Kings Park (also managed by the Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority) and even Rottnest on a clear day.
