Sitchu Readers Share Their Favourite Cafes in Melbourne
We took to our readers to get their opinion on what they consider to be the best cafe in Melbourne.
If there's one thing Melbournians love, it's a good cafe. And there's nothing better than finding one you enjoy so much, it becomes your local go-to for mornings, weekends, and everything in-between. We know you adore cafes just as much as we do, and we thought it was about time we got your opinion on the pick of the litter across Melbourne.
We asked, you answered. Here are Sitchu Readers' favourite cafes in Melbourne.
Nan's Bakehouse
"Nan's Bakehouse has quickly become an absolute favourite spot for a lot of locals in Footscray. The staff are wonderful, the food and little sweet treats are out of this world, awesome coffee, interior is such a vibe, and they give back to the local community in so many ways. They turned an otherwise quite boring strip into a thriving spot to get a cookie to go, sit down with friends, or take home an epic meal."

16A Albert Street, Footscray
Tone
"Their coffee (and toasties) and what makes Tone Coffee so special. The tigerbomb coffee is so good!! And their ham, cheese and jalapeno toastie is always my go to order."
- Shannon
Tone coffee is a newly opened cafe in Prahan that's already becoming a favourite amongst the locals. Cute, cosy and serving up delicious cups of coffee as well as mouthwatering toasties, this spot is the perfect addition to your morning ritual.
7/121 High Street, Prahran
Drums Cafe Preston
"Drums Cafe has friendly, attentive service. Staff were wonderful with my children, and made us feel very welcome. The string hopper meal served with string hoppers, your choice of meat or vegetarian curry, dhall and sambal, for $14 is delicious and an absolute bargain - it's my favourite dish. The most flavourful, authentic Sri Lankan cuisine in Melbourne."
- Angeli
C245C Preston Market, Cramer St, Preston
Little Rogue
"I had my first matcha in Melbourne at Little Rogue and I always come back because it’s the perfect place to bring friends who have never had matcha before. It’s got little tables and is tucked away in an alleyway right beside its sister bakery, which is very Melbourne. There are better matchas in Melbourne now, but I always come back to Little Rogue because of the comfort it brings me. My favourite drink is the iced oat matcha latte, it’s a very smooth matcha topped with a sweet cold foam. Wait the five minutes if needed to score a seat and savor it!"
- Kimmy
12 Drewery Lane, Melbourne
Journey Man
"The coffee at Journey Man is delicious, the vibe is great and the service is quick - you’re not waiting one hour for food. The potato croquette is a must to try!"
- Jasmine
Journey Man is an iconic cafe on Chapel Street that's perfect for weekend brunches and coffee dates. This light and vibrant atmosphere is not only a social hub, but also has an incredible food menu filled with mouthwatering sweet and savoury options.
169 Chapel Street, Windsor
Secret Grounds
"Secret Grounds in Doncaster has amazing food, beautiful presentation, lovely place and super friendly staff. The mushroom and truffle omelette is a must-try."
- Kerry
Secret Grounds may just be Doncaster's best kept secret. This hidden gem is a light-filled and airy corner cafe serving up classic brunch fare and small plates to hungry eastern suburb locals.
87 High Street, Doncaster
Market Lane Coffee
"The coffee made by Market Lane Coffee at the South Melbourne Market hits different! Perfect balance of oat milk creaminess with coffee. I can sip coffees here all day long!"
- Nikola
While Market Lane Coffee has multiple locations across Melbourne (Brunswick, Carlton, CBD, Prahan Market and the Queen Vic Market), there's something special about the South Melbourne Market that always has us beelining towards it. Enjoy a coffee from Market Lane while you meander through the market and pick out something to eat from one of the many stalls, or pick up your fresh fruit and produce for the week.
305 Coventry Street, South Melbourne
Heart Bakes
"Heart Bakes has friendly, quick service, an aesthetic, family friendly vibe, and amazing location! It’s the perfect neighbourhood spot. My favourite drink is their chai latte, it’s all I drink but here it just tastes the best! As for meals, the breakfast sandwich is my go-to. The chilli jam is divine, really makes it what it is!"
- Melanie
220 Bridge Street, Port Melbourne
