Cru+ Coffee Roastery

Cru+ Coffee Roastery

While Cru+ Coffee Roastery is relatively new to the scene, opening in 2023, they are making waves in the cafe space. While they pride themselves on their roasted coffee, they're also doing another drink incredibly right: matcha. Cru+ has a range of unique matcha drinks, including a honey iced matcha, matcha fog (matcha over coconut water) and an ichigo garden matcha, which is matcha combined with the tang of strawberries. Not too sweet, they have the perfect brew that will have you coming back for more.

Operator San

Operator San

Operator San is a new Japanese-inspired cafe in Melbourne that is brewing delicious matcha for everyone to enjoy. Not too sweet, their matcha is smooth and creamy - not to mention, incredibly rich in flavour. Plus, for the hotter days, they also have an iced matcha and matcha soft serve...what's not to love? Next time you're in a matcha mood, we couldn't recommend this place enough.

Matcha Mate

Matcha Mate

If you think you can matcha-fy it, chances are Matcha Mate has already done it. This incredible cafe specialises in matcha treats, from classic matcha lattes to unique creations like ube matcha, matcha spiders and matcha biscoff. They also do a yuzu matcha spritz that's incredibly delicious and refreshing. Whether you're craving an afternoon sweet treat or a late night dessert, Matcha Mate has you sorted.

Karomi Cafe

Karomi Cafe

Karomi Cafe is all about brewing the creamiest, most premium matcha you could possibly imagine. Seriously, these lattes are so smooth, there's no doubt Karomi Cafe has some of the best matcha in Melbourne. Feeling dirty? Add a coffee shot for a unique twist - their dirty matcha is their secret specialty.

19 Mackenzie Street, Melbourne

Naau Cafe

Naau Cafe

Naau Cafe is one of Melbourne's newest matcha hot spots 'where matcha moments blossom.' Here, you'll find all sorts of unique matcha, including peanut cream matcha lattes, sparkling yuzu, and their most popular one, raspberry matcha. The tang of the raspberry combined with the creaminess of the earthy matcha is a unique spin on the trendy strawberry matcha, and we can't get enough!

Balibola (Image credit: Alyssa Forato)

Balibola

Baibola arrived in Melbourne only in February this year, but they have already captured the hearts of the matcha lovers of Melbourne. You'll often find people lining up for the unique collection of matcha drinks they offer, including a very popular matchamisu, strawberry matcha, purple matcha, and baby matcha, which is made with beets! And you can't go past their incredible matcha desserts, their matcha tiramisu and matcha cheesecake. Heavenly creamy and delicious!

Come for the matcha, but make sure you also order their 'Smavo' (smashed avocado toast) with chilli flakes. It's the perfect amount of food for breakfast or a light lunch, and tastes delicious!

259 Collins Street, Melbourne

Tori's

Tori's

For artisan cakes, desserts, and some of the best matcha in Melbourne, you'll want to make a beeline straight for Tori's. Ilza Japanese Cafe

Ilza Japanese Cafe

This super compact, super cute and cosy little space is a real hidden gem - and is serving up some of the creamiest, most delectable matcha in Melbourne.

At Ilza, you can expect homely Japanese style food and drinks alongside your matcha, which also comes in flavours of tiramisu, strawberry and orange. Trust us, the tiramisu matcha will have you coming back for more, plus their straight matcha latte is simply one of the best in the city.

We're also eager to head back to enjoy Ilza's peanut butter latte - this place is real tea and coffee haven.

Hikari (Image Credit: What's On Melbourne)

Hikari

The CBD's Hikari is well known for serving up some of the best matcha in Melbourne, thanks to their passion for sourcing premium matcha and hojicha (roasted green tea) from Kyoto. They're partnered with Kurasu and Yugen, specialty tea and coffee shops in Kyoto, who source and roast the best single origin teas from small local farms around the region. These are later hand-whisked and carefully prepared into every matcha and hojicha drink you can enjoy at Hikari. This is what matcha should taste like, lighter in comparison to some, but a great pick me up after a heavy meal. Go get sipping.

Oh, don't forget to try the matcha cheesecake on offer here either. Delish!

317 Swanston Street, Melbourne

Miyama

Miyama

Dedicated to the art of Omotenashi (the bridging of exceptional hospitality and mindfulness), Miyama is another Japanese inspired cafe experience in the city proving its weight in matcha gold.

From exceptional desserts and pastries like matcha Basque cheesecake, matcha canelé and a matcha and white chocolate cookie, to drool-worthy iced matcha and hot genmaicha lattes, hojicha and dirty matcha drinks, it's hard to keep your order to just one thing. But their super popular iced matcha and white chocolate latte is a must-try.

Alongside an array of nourishing Japanese brunch plates, teriyaki chicken cha soba, sushi and slow cooked curries, Miyama isn't just a cafe; it's a concept that combines the warmth of Japanese tradition with the bold charm of Melbourne.

With two iconic locations under their belt, INI has become our go-to for a minimalist and relaxing matcha run. Served up with a slice of their famously good banoffee pie, and you'll soon be singing its praises to.
