Brisbane has a tendency to bunker down and hibernate through the colder months (we’re in the Sunshine State after all, we can’t cope with the cold!) but with the exciting line-up of events across the city this month, we’re pulling on an extra layer and heading out.

Spanning live music, entertainment, free exhibitions, wine festivals and foodie events, there’s a little something for everyone on this month.

If you’re not heading out on a Winter getaway, comfort food is the way to see yourself through the colder season and we have plenty of that on the menu for this month! Just keep scrolling to find the best events happening across the city in July.

Discover your next favourite drop at The Reserve Wine Expo this July. Step into the Frangipani Ballroom at The Emporium Hotel in South Bank and explore a curated collection of bottles from over thirty wineries.

You can sip and sample from each wine in your very own personal take-home Plumm wine glass, and if you upgrade to a premium pass, you’ll have the opportunity to taste another six premium wines (plus the bragging rights that obviously come with it).

The most delicious time of the year returns to the desirable fashion and fine dining district of Brisbane in July, with James Street Food & Wine Trail landing from Saturday 27th July for a weekend of delectable dining.

Some of the newest venues on the street (think The Nixon Room, Sunshine and Carmen) will join regular favourites like sAme sAme, Hellenika and ESSA in bringing culinary delights of all kinds to the masses.

After Saturday’s Trail Day of ticketed events and limited edition eats, Sunday brings Market Day, where each participating venue will take to the streets and serve the community one enormous feast.

Every July, the Medieval Festival welcomes thousands of visitors to experience what life was like in the Middle Ages, through the mediums of re-enactment, performances, food vendors and more!

The Festival helps to fund the Abbey Museum, Queensland’s home of fine arts and antiquities, and  the valuable educational experiences it offers to schools and to the public.

We’re so excited to see the return of Open Season to Brisbane City this month, with a stacked lineup that promises not one, but two months of entertainment!

King Street and The Tivoli are where the magic will happen, with a vibrant program of music, art and tasty culinary creations coming your way. The event will kick off with an opening party on Saturday, June 1st, with Blak Day Out, a collaboration between Blak Social and The Tivoli. This opening party will celebrate First Nations' excellence, with performances from some of the nation’s most prestigious Indigenous artists, pop-up bars, a silent disco, live art and even some street food stalls to keep you full of food and full of culture.

Spanning nine action-packed days of entertainment, the Noosa Alive! Festival returns for its 22nd year. Spread across the gorgeous venues and landscape of Kabi Kabi Land, over 25 different arts and cultural events will be held from Taylor Swift tribute performances to Queensland Ballet performances.

New Light: Photography Now + Then

New Light: Photography Now + Then

Arriving at the Museum of Brisbane in August, New Light: Photography Now + Then offers a curation of past and present photography from the museum’s most prolific archive, the Elliott Collection.

Catapulting the past perspectives into present day, are images from local photographers and image makers, offering a juxtaposition that will spark wonder and amazement at the change our city has seen.

Sitchu Tip: The Elliott Collection showcases the work of an amateur photographer by the name of Alfred Henrie Elliott, whose black and white photography was found preserved in cedar cigar boxes under a Red Hill home in 1983.

Open Season Festival will wrap up the party with Blak Day Out, a collaboration between The Tivoli & Blak Social.

Snack on street food stalls, shake it in a silent disco, shop from some of King Street’s Indigenous retailers and of course, soak up some First Nations excellence, with performances from ARIA-nominated Emma Donovan, hip-hop collective 3%, Velvet Trip, BADASSMUTHA, The Ancient Bloods and more.

Note: Blak Day Out has been rescheduled to 24 August.

Lightscape

Invite a sense of wonder into your life this month with the arrival of Lightscape, a two-kilometre, self-guided trail under glowing tree canopies filled with colour and through sparkling tunnels of light.

Pore over neon roots bursting from the undergrowth of the Brisbane Botanic Gardens, as this immersive installation is brought to life in a warm-up for the Brisbane Festival.

With sessions running every 15 minutes, we recommend allowing yourself a leisurely 90 minutes to stroll through the experience, so you’ll have plenty of time to be mesmerised… and to get your Instagram moments, of course.
