Heron Island

If snorkelling in crystal clear water with baby turtles sounds like your dream escape, pack your bags and head to Heron Island. Located in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef, this gorgeous hidden gem holiday spot is home to a wide range of marine life.

Lizard Island

Lizard Island isn’t like the other islands. It’s actually a remnant of a mountain range that was once exposed above sea level. The remoteness of Lizard Island (240 kilometres north of Cairns) makes it a private and quiet escape that allows you to completely go off the grid.

Named for the goannas that thrived on the island when it was encountered by James Cook, the traditional place name is Dyiigurra/Jiigurru, and was once a popular place for Dingaal people to harvest shellfish, dugongs and fish. The island is also home to beautiful native birds, so you won’t be short of wildlife spotting to do on your visit.
